About Alexandre Yersin
Alexandre Yersin was a Swiss-French physician and bacteriologist whose work at the Institut Pasteur helped establish the microbial causes of infectious disease. In 1894, while investigating an outbreak in Hong Kong, he isolated the bacterium responsible for plague, later named Yersinia pestis. He subsequently founded and directed the Pasteur Institute in Nha Trang, Vietnam, while also pursuing agricultural research, including work on rubber and quinine-producing plants.
