Brassaï

Brassaï, born Gyula Halász, was a Hungarian-French photographer celebrated for his atmospheric views of Paris after dark. His landmark photobook *Paris de Nuit* (1933) portrayed nightlife, street scenes, and working-class Parisians, helping establish night photography as a major artistic subject. He also photographed leading artists including Henri Matisse and Alberto Giacometti and explored collage and photomontage in his *Transmutations* series.
