Brett Whiteley

Brett Whiteley was an Australian painter and draughtsman whose work moved between abstraction, portraiture, interiors, landscapes and Sydney Harbour scenes. After gaining international attention in London during the 1960s, he returned to Australia and produced major works including *Alchemy* (1972–73). In 1978, he became the first artist to win Australia’s Archibald, Wynne and Sulman prizes in the same year.
