Carmen Miranda

Carmen Miranda was a Portuguese-born Brazilian singer and actress who rose to fame through Brazilian radio, samba recordings, and musical films. After joining the 1939 Broadway production *The Streets of Paris*, she became a major Hollywood star, celebrated for her vivid costumes and energetic performances. Her international success helped bring Brazilian samba to wider audiences, even as Hollywood often confined her to stereotyped Latina roles.
