Doina Cornea

Doina Cornea was a Romanian French-language academic, translator, and prominent anti-communist dissident. She produced clandestine samizdat translations and, from 1982, sent protest texts to Radio Free Europe, actions that led to her dismissal from the University of Cluj and repeated interrogation by the communist authorities. After 1989, she helped establish several organizations associated with Romania’s democratic opposition.
