Dziga Vertov

Dziga Vertov was a pioneering Soviet documentary filmmaker and cinema theorist whose work transformed nonfiction film through radical editing, mobile camerawork, and an emphasis on cinema’s distinct mechanical and audiovisual language. He led the Kino-Eye collective and is best known for *Man with a Movie Camera* (1929), a formally audacious portrait of urban life and filmmaking itself. His theories and techniques helped shape later experimental documentary and cinéma vérité traditions.
