Francis Redwood

Francis William Redwood was a Marist church leader who became Bishop of Wellington in 1874 and, from 1887, New Zealand’s first Roman Catholic Archbishop of Wellington. Having arrived in New Zealand with his family as a child, he guided the Catholic Church through its transition from a missionary community to an established institution. His long episcopate was marked by the growth of priests, religious communities, schools, and other Catholic institutions across the country.
