Girindrasekhar Bose

Girindrasekhar Bose was an Indian psychiatrist and pioneering psychoanalyst who helped establish psychoanalysis as an organized field in India. His 1921 thesis, *The Concept of Repression*, developed an original engagement with psychoanalytic theory and led to a long correspondence with Sigmund Freud. Bose also founded the Indian Psychoanalytic Society in 1922 and challenged the assumption that European psychoanalytic concepts applied uniformly across cultures.
