About Henry Lawson

Henry Lawson (1867–1922) was an Australian short-story writer, poet and balladist whose work helped define the literature of the bush. Raised in New South Wales and largely self-educated, he drew on rural hardship and working-class experience in stories such as “The Drover’s Wife” and “The Bush Undertaker.” A regular contributor to *The Bulletin* during the 1890s, Lawson also supported nationalist, egalitarian and pro-union causes.
