Henry Meiggs

Henry Meiggs was an American entrepreneur and railroad contractor whose career shifted from financial scandal in California to major railway construction in Chile and Peru. Known in South America as Enrique Meiggs, he helped build the Santiago–Valparaíso line and later undertook the difficult Lima–La Oroya railway across the Andes. His legacy combines substantial infrastructure achievements with the fraud and financial controversies that preceded his departure from the United States.
