Iris Murdoch

Iris Murdoch was an Irish-born British novelist and philosopher whose fiction examined moral choice, desire, self-deception, and the difficulty of seeing other people clearly. She taught philosophy at Oxford’s St Anne’s College before devoting herself full-time to writing, while continuing to publish influential philosophical works such as *The Sovereignty of Good*. Her novel *The Sea, the Sea* won the 1978 Booker Prize.
