Juan José Eguiara y Eguren

Juan José Eguiara y Eguren was a Mexican ecclesiastic, scholar, and university professor whose work helped document the intellectual life of colonial Mexico. As rector of the Royal and Pontifical University of Mexico, he pursued education and literary scholarship alongside his church career. His major achievement, the Latin Bibliotheca Mexicana, published its first volume in 1755 and became an early systematic bibliography of writers associated with Mexico and Spanish America.
