Leymah Gbowee

Leymah Gbowee is a Liberian peace activist, social worker, and women’s rights advocate who organized the Women of Liberia Mass Action for Peace in 2002. The movement united Christian and Muslim women in nonviolent protests that helped pressure Liberia’s leaders toward a 2003 peace agreement. Gbowee shared the 2011 Nobel Peace Prize for advancing women’s safety and participation in peacebuilding.
