Moms Mabley

Moms Mabley, born Loretta Mary Aiken, became a pioneering Black comedian through the vaudeville circuit and built a six-decade career in stand-up. Her sharp social satire addressed racism, sexism, politics, and everyday life, while her appearances at venues including Carnegie Hall and the Apollo helped broaden opportunities for Black women in comedy. She also recorded successful comedy albums and appeared in film and television.
