Noël Browne

Noël Browne was an Irish physician and politician who served as Minister for Health from 1948 to 1951. He pursued an ambitious public-health campaign against tuberculosis and later became closely associated with the controversial Mother and Child Scheme, which contributed to his resignation from government. A politically independent and often outspoken figure, Browne represented several parties during a parliamentary career spanning both the Dáil and Seanad.
