Patrick White

Patrick White was an English-born Australian novelist and playwright whose fiction brought Australia’s landscapes, history, and social tensions into an intensely psychological literary style. His major novels include *The Tree of Man*, *Voss*, and *The Eye of the Storm*. In 1973, he became the first Australian writer to receive the Nobel Prize in Literature, and he later used part of the prize money to establish the Patrick White Award for Australian writers.
