Theo van Doesburg

Theo van Doesburg was a Dutch painter, architect, writer and editor who helped establish De Stijl, the avant-garde movement that sought a universal visual language through abstraction, geometric structure and primary colour. He extended these ideas from painting into architecture, collaborating with Cornelis van Eesteren on experimental spatial designs and contributing to the development of modernist architectural thought. His work also intersected with Dada, Bauhaus teaching and the design of the Aubette interiors in Strasbourg.
