William Howard Russell

William Howard Russell was an Irish journalist whose dispatches for The Times from the Crimean War helped establish modern war correspondence. He later reported from conflicts including the Indian Rebellion, the American Civil War, and the Franco-Prussian War, bringing frontline conditions and military failures to a broad public. He also founded and edited the Army and Navy Gazette, extending his influence beyond battlefield reporting.
