Yaa Asantewaa

Yaa Asantewaa was the queen mother of Ejisu in the Asante kingdom, in present-day Ghana. From April 1900 to March 1901, she inspired and led armed resistance against British colonial rule in the conflict known as the War of the Golden Stool. Her leadership made her an enduring symbol of Asante sovereignty and African women’s political authority.
