Yuan Zhen

Yuan Zhen (779–831) was a Tang-dynasty poet and statesman who helped lead the New Yuefu movement alongside Bai Juyi. His poetry pursued clear, socially engaged expression, while his prose work *The Story of Yingying* became one of the most influential classical Chinese tales and inspired later adaptations. His career combined literary achievement with high government office, including a brief tenure as chancellor.
