Understanding this quote
The speaker imagines becoming a “piece of field recording”—a recorded fragment of sound gathered from the world. This suggests valuing the status of a small, preserved trace of lived surroundings rather than being a person who merely experiences them. The wording turns that unusual wish into a reflection on being captured, kept, and heard.
